Yes rap and hip hop are two different distinctions. Hip Hop is mainstream rap and has less gangsta rap influences. Rap is more underground and less known. Hip Hop examples in my opinion are, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Lupe Fiasco, and Tupac. Rap examples include Prodigy, Alchemist, and AZ.
