I have a Canon 17 - 85 mm lens for my Rebel XT. I need a wider angle. What lens do you suggest?

My photography is limited to nature shots and wide landscapes. I have also been on the lookout for a zoom lens. Somewhere around 600 mm - 800 mm. Budget constraints :)
