What is going on with NASA currently?

I heard something like it was being closed. I love NASA and think it should stay in business. It is so important so why are they closing down. Shouldn't like 40% of the tax payers money go towards NASA. After all it is our future, I mean our population isn't getting any smaller. Also are resources go only so far, so shouldn't our top priority be switching to renewable energies and space, science, and colonizing a new moon/planet?
