Can my principal expel me with no proof?

Im a junior and I wanted to go to a college fair, but i lost my paper somewhere and didnt get a chance to turn it in that day. The next day I came to school with a note and talked to the couselor about it. I kinda bugged her so i left her alone for a minute to consult with my friend. The bell rand and I asked her one last different question, she got pissed and gave me a snappy answer. I walked away and said "Wow, Id rather Ditch". She told my VP and he suspended me saying that I called her a *****. Im pending expulsion. Can the really expel me just by taking her word?
